This is what I stumbled upon as I was cleaning up the backyard - okay, the picture so does not do this little guy justice. He was much larger in person, I swear!

Oh...ahem...hello little lizard.
And yes, I did call Kaz at work to tell him there was a snake in the backyard (at this point I was a little freaked out). He asked what shape head it had (to tell if it's poisonous he says, which I didn't know), and I say I'm not close enough to see what the shape is (duh!). So he told me to just stay away - so I went inside and got my camera to take pictures. With the zoom on 100%, too. I was not getting close to the sucker. You just have to trust me on this - it looked much larger in person. Of course, then I had to call him back a couple minutes later and explain how my "snake" had grown legs.
I just thought I should share this, despite the laughs ya'll are having at my expense. That's okay, go ahead - it's totally deserved.Meanwhile, my girls were having a grand ol' time playing in the water today. We first played in the front yard (okay, they played and I dug up the flower bed to plant poppies). They ended up covered from head to toe in mud (I did not get pictures of this), so I just hosed them down and then let them play in the backyard.
For St. Patricks Day tomorrow, Lola gets to bring a green snack for all her classmates. So we did a little online search for ideas and came up with chocolate dipped pretzels.
They are so incredibly easy to do, and both girls helped with the dipping and sprinkles.
Wish you could taste them, they are yummy!
It is a totally gorgeous day out today, but the girls and I had our limit (probably me more than them!) after two hours at the park, an hour going to the farmers market, and then another hour having a picnic at yet another park.
So I decided to do an activity that would keep us busy for a while indoors. Awhile back I saw a blog that gave some ideas for this - okay, so they were stuck indoors because the weather was too cold/snowy, but hey, I had laundry to finish and a kitchen to clean.Using Cool Whip and food coloring, the girls helped me make
different color 'paints' for their 'cookie sheet' paper.
What a blast this was! It kept the girls busy for about 45 minutes, and they loved that they could lick up any paint they got on their hands.

Speaking of artwork you can eat...
I have been making a salad for myself to eat just about every day for the past month. Sometimes for lunch, sometimes for dinner. And yes, to me it's like artwork. Some Spring greens, almonds, sunflower seeds, sliced strawberries & green apple, tomato & basil feta cheese all topped with a white Balsamic vinagrette. Yum, yum! Or as my kids would say, yummy, yummy for my tummy!
As I was sitting down to dinner last night with my salad, Lola told me "Momma, you know it's not healthy to eat the same thing every single night!" No, really, when it's a salad filled with all these yummy things it is! She didn't believe me.
Anyhow, the only thing I am looking for is a good vinagrette that is a lighter version (doesn't have to be fat-free). Is there such a thing out there? Do any of you know of one? I have tried a couple, but they're just okay, not great.
And just in case you were wondering, yes, I will be having this salad again tonight for dinner.

Kaz was going in to work around noon today because he has to work late tonight, so he let me have a few hours to myself this morning. I ran a few errands, did a little shopping, and then came home to this -
Instead of the usual building with blocks or legos, reading, or playing outside in the dirt, my husband lovingly (notice I didn't say grudgingly?) played paper dolls and tea party. Yep, he's a keeper....even in a bikini.
Recently Lola has been talking a lot about how she wants to be a ballerina when she grows up. However, she gets frustrated at times when she practices her ballet moves, and they don't look exactly like we see in a book or on her Swan Lake dvd. So I tell her that those ballerinas are grown up and have been practicing and going to class for many, many years.
She has asked me before why I don't work, and I have told her that I have chosen to be a mommy for my job. So today she asks me which school I went to & what classes I took to become a mommy. Ummm...none. What? She really didn't understand that. Yeah, I don't either. Really, I could have used a masters degree to get me through some days.
